Ever since I can remember I’ve had this desire to take ugly, broken and neglected things and make them beautiful again. That’s probably why I love thrifting so much. I love being able to see the potential in a neglected piece of antique furniture or the beauty in an old dusty work of art.
In fact, when I see an abandoned house from a nearby neighborhood get purchased I get so excited. I purposely drive through the area every few weeks or so for the highly anticipated transformation. I relish the sight of new paint and fresh flowers. I admire the warmth of the lovely wreath and welcome mat at the front door. An old home has been given a new life and I love it.
You know what else possesses great beauty and amazing potential? You and I. We may be simple and flawed human beings but to God we are so much more. His love whispers to us in the pages of scripture saying “…you are righteous, holy and redeemed.”(1 Corinthians 1:28-30) “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jer. 31:3) Can you hear him? Listen again. He says “…I have called you by name and you are mine.”
God wants to take broken, abandoned, hurting people and restore them with love, grace and mercy. Why? Because he loves us and we are his.
May God bless you and keep you.
